Why has the snow on Fuji san not melted this year?

It's June, but it looks like March or April. Despite the heat, why has the snow on Mt. Fuji not melted like it normally does?

Why has the snow on Fuji san not melted this year?
I'm not sure that there's anything unusual going on.

Looking at the live webcam shots of Mt Fuji such as this one http://www.fujigoko.tv/live/shotPhoto.cg... you can see that much of the snow has already melted. What you can see fits with the climate and climbing guides for the mountain. Many of the guides warn that the mountain can be snowbound until late July and unclimbable except by experienced mountaineers. All would appear to be well with the mountain and if you're planning on climbing it it doesn't look like you'll encounter any problems.

There is a better webcam sited at the fifth station en-route to the summit but the picture is hours old so it may be experiencing technical problems (and I've lost the link to it).

Snowfall is generally more variable than temperature and if the snow does linger longer than normal it's often because there has been above average snowfall in the preceding months.
Reply:Because of global warming............everything else is getting blamed on it, might as well include this too.
Reply:Er...the top of mount Fuji is pretty high YO! It's always cold up there! LOL!!
Reply:Global cooling but keep it quiet cos no political mileage here

In june ok i know not my best but is it funny?

A lady walked into a bar and there were no seats available, except for one at a table that was occupied by a man, and she decides to take it.

He said, "Hello, my name is Jim Snow, what's yours?"

The women replied, "June."

She went to get a drink and Jim Snow sat there smiling at her. When she came back he still sat there smiling.

June was a little embarrassed, so she bashfully said, "Why are you smiling at me like that?"

Jim answered, "Well, just imagine having 6 inches of Snow in June!"

I want to lose 30 pounds by june, don't have money to spend and its very snowy. HELP ASAP?

I want to look good by June but I don't have money to spend buy things, and it snows alot here so walking isn't easy. I have stairs in my house thought. Please HELP ME I GOT LOSE 30 POUNDS BY JUNE!!! (Thanks in advance)

I want to lose 30 pounds by june, don't have money to spend and its very snowy. HELP ASAP?
30 pounds in 4 months may be a bit difficult but here goes nothing! First you have to be on fire about losing the weight, I would suggest a full diet makeover. Dont go on any crazy diets that you cant stick with for the rest of your life, because once you stop the diet you gain the weight right back.

Try to cut out unhealthy food, like fast food. Be concious of how many calories you are eating. mypyramid.gov is a great way, and cheap way to find out how much you are eating and keep track of it, this will keep you more concious of your eating habits but it will take some time you fill out the food journal. Be sure to eat breakfast and try to eat little snacks in between your meals: ex. a granola bar, baby carrots, and apple or banana, plain handful of almonds. Try to "eat breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince, and dinner like a Pauper."

Instead of drinking soda or alcohol to drink water or milk, skim milk is the best and has the same amount of basically everything (protein, vitamins) that whole milk does only less fat, if you don't like skim switch to super skim, it tastes about the same as whole or 2 %.

Try to eat more whole grains as well, yes they have more calories but they are composed of complex sugars which take the body longer to digest so you arent hungry as often. Fruit is a simple sugar so it doesnt stick with you as long but is healthy and great for you nonetheless. Cereal, like the whole grain general mills, is a good snack or you can even substitute it for another meal (but make sure to add something like fruit to it). Oatmeal is great too I have the Quaker Weight control and it fill me up greatly, instead of adding water to it substitute skim milk, it tastes way better.

Eat up on your veggies, they have very low calories and fill you up....you might want to take some beano....it sure give me gas sometimes:)

For protein eat lean meat. Turkey is very lean, and be sure to look at the lean vs fat on the package: 98% lean is healtier than 93% lean obviously...but the leaner it is the more expensive. Egg whites, chicken and skim milk are good sources of protein too. Cut back on the cholesterol intake and your body will thank you. Soy food, like tofu is also a good source of protein...but most people, including me, dont like the taste very much.

Limit your fats and oils. Dont restrict yourself to much or you may be tempted and binge eat all the fats you want, but do try to limit your fats...like on friday nights go for that 1 scoop of ice cream or eat that fun-sized candy bar, but be sure to limit. The best is to cut dessert totally out of you diet but as long as you limit it will be easier for you.

Don't reward yourself with food...an apple yes, but apple pie no. Rewards like "a new pair of shorts" are the best way to do it.

The next thing you'll need to do is exercise. The steps in you house are great try going up and down them repetitive times, wall taps are also good for getting you heart going (jump up and touch as high as you can on the wall or ceiling if you can, do that about 20 times for 3 sets, and work you way up, you'll get some nice leg muscles too! If you have a gym membership use it and go run on the treadmill or lift till your hearts content.

If you dont have a membership and you cant run outside try to use your own body weight to do things. Warm up your body by jogging in place or jumping rope, try to warm up for about 3-5 minutes. You can do tricep dips on a chair or bicep curls with gallon filled jugs or detergent bottles. Pushups and crunches are good too! The link below has some helpful tips with weights. A resistance band is also a great inexpensive way to tone your muscles. Dont worry that you'll get big muscles either just do low weight at high reps (ex.: 5lbs and 15 reps and 2 sets for arms) that way you will only tone the area. Try to work your muscles to fatigue and you'll get more calories burned and better results. The greater the lean mass you have---the greater your muscle mass-- the more efficiently you can burn calories at rest.

Get creative with the weights you use, almost anything will work. Be sure to stretch after you work out and cool down (do an activity at a lower intensity) this will reduce the lactic acid buildup--the burning sensation in your arms or legs or almost any part of the body that you worked out, its more important to stretch afterward than before the exercise in order to lengthen your muscles more effectivly. I am an athlete myself and I have never pulled a muscle from not stretching in the beginning, but if you want to stretch before hand be sure do do so actively, like do lunges or buttkick or high knees.

Remeber 3500 calories= 1 pound of fat so a healthy way to loose fat is to work off 500 calories per day and at the end of the week you will burn 1 lb of fat. You will most likely lose more weight at the beginning of your new diet and exercise and then you'll probably hit a plateau and not lose very much. Be sure to try a new techique at losing weight by doing different exercises.

Don't get discouraged if you mess up, just keep trying and do your best. Have fun with it but remember it probably took you a while to put on those 30lbs so it take some time to burn it off. Shoveling snow is a great way to burn calories too, and gets your driveway shoveled! Good Luck and keep active!
Reply:Walk up and down your stairs 30 minutes a day. Walk every chance you get. ...walk?
Reply:Drink Green Tea and Plenty of Ice cold water trade that with your other drinks and u will lose weight in no time. Im doing it!!
Reply:I probably sound like a broken record by now. Trying to lose weight that fast can be unhealthy. 2 lbs a week after the first few weeks is the rule.

If you cut your food intake down too much, you can go into the starvation mode and gain weight.

If you obsess diet, you will also be more prone to 'fall off the wagon' which won't help you reach your goal.

There are a lot of programs that can help you lose weight safely. Remember while you are reading their claims to read the fine print. They all say - this is not the normal.
Reply:If you don't have money to spend then liquid diets are not going to help. Try a combination of exercise and strength training for at least 60 minutes a day 4 to 5 days a week with a healthy diet that includes lots of vegetables and fresh fruit (not fruit juice). Drink lots of water and don't drink your calories! meaning stay away from soda, juice, whole milk, gatorade and powerades.....just drink water. Watch what you put in your coffee too (creamer is fattening). Watch your portion sizes and eat low fat proteins like chicken, fish and turkey. Try to include fiber in your diet more like whole grain breads. Fiber help produce satiety so you will feel fuller longer and help with weight management goals. Limit dining out too....restaurants add a lot of calories and big portion sizes
Reply:Eat a lot of Veggies and Salads to fill you up. Pasta is good too.
Reply:Try medifast. You lose between 18-20 lbs a month. I lost 60 lbs in 12 weeks :)

Grew up in that area and remember snow in early Fall and late Spring. It seems that we almost always had snow as early as Halloween and as late as Easter.

Just found where you can get the info. Check out the National Weather Service link below.

Earliest date of first snow: September 3, 1961

Latest date of last snow: June 12, 1947

Where can you snowboard in June?

Where can you snowboard in June? and i'm not talking about parks or glaciers or anything. i mean the real deal. as much snow as you would have any other time you went on a board / ski trip.

Where can you snowboard in June?
Winter is just starting in Australia and New Zealand. People will say dont come to Oz for the snow, but it does get good and if you hit it when itd on it can be real good. Out in the back country is some of the funnest and some pretty steep terrain. New Zealand has everything. Chillie and Argentina are also some of the sickest places to ride for a southern winter.
Reply:Um anywhere in the southern hemisphere. Australia has some Amazing ski resorts, like mt buller, mt hotham, falls creek, all are amazing. The rockies are usually snow covered in june, especially places like 7th heaven in whistler. etc. the opportunities are endless.

places like europe aren't skiable during june, their snow bases scratch the surface, and is for sure not enough to ski in.
Reply:You could go to Chile in South America. I heard they have really awesome snow...most of it untouched, as well.

There's more countries in South America you could go to.
Reply:Timberline Lodge in Mt. Hood OR is open all year round but its a glacier.
Reply:Go to Argentina, I've heard there are nice resorts there and there might already be snowed by june!
Reply:go to switzerland.
Reply:Whistler, Canada or somewhere in Europe probably
Reply:Somewhere in the Southern hemisphere!

Has it ever snowed in the state of ILL. in the months of June or July? If so what year?

I have 25$ riding on this arguement. It's just to unbelievable.

Has it ever snowed in the state of ILL. in the months of June or July? If so what year?
It seems that I've read or heard somewhere that it has happened, and it has since been determined that it was due to a volcanic eruption altering weather patterns.
Reply:I'm not sure, but if it happened, it probably was 1816. Check the weather records for that year.

Let it snow now in summer time?

A friend of mine told me that is a matter of mind over matter when we are facing stuff. Like in the winter if we want to warm up we think about fire in the fire place or a cup of warm coco. So why can't we take that Ideal and think snow in June or July? Snow wonderful cold wet beautiful snow fall in NY city would not that be so cool! Can you image the traffic stop because they could not believe their eyes. People stopping and wondering if the sky is falling as the snow hit their noses. It is just a thought!

Let it snow now in summer time?
Ah, psychosomatic suggestion - a trick of the mind. Thinking warm or cold thoughts does make you feel warmer or cooler. Doctors suggest to patients who have difficulty passing water to think about lakes, rivers, rain etc to help them.

Thinking these thoughts doesn't cause any external physical effects so it wouldn't be possible to make it snow - that's caused by water evepourating from the seas and oceans, forming water droplets in the sky then falling as snow because it's cold.

Still, there's no harm in trying and lying on a beach somewhere with your boy/girl friend and 'cloudbusting' is a nice way to pass an hour or two.
Reply:in my opinion it is rather a silly thought as u can't expect such happenings unless the climatic patern of the world modifies

silly day dreaming!!
Reply:Great idea! If I could do that, I'd think about some sun shine. Perhaps David Blane can help?

What are conditions like on the Panorama trail in Yosemite National Park during late May and early June?

I'm planning to hike the Panorama trail during this time frame and was wondering what kind of trail conditions to expect. How much snow will I have to deal with if any? What about conditions on the switchback that descends alongside Nevada Fall?

What are conditions like on the Panorama trail in Yosemite National Park during late May and early June?
Late May and you can still have some compacted snow on the trail near Illilouette Falls - that stretch is the most north-facing on the route. Depends on the snowpack that year and how quickly May gets warm. But in June, it's all gone. If there's still some snow, and I was starting really early, I would add a warm hat to my outfit. But mostly, I'd still be in shorts and a shirt for high-altitude sun protection.

The trail alongside Nevada can be a little rough on the feet if you're in running shoes. I'd recommend stepping up to a trail shoe that has a little stiffer sole (and breaking them in beforehand - duh). Nike's Lava Dome was the prototype of the low-cut trail shoe 25 years ago. Now I like the Salomon XA. That part of the trail is sort of like a rough cobble-stone road. Whereas the stretch along and below Vernal Falls is paved mixed with smoother sand/gravel stretches.

Round trip or one way? I love it as a round trip, but I'm pretty hard-core (I believe, at 45, I should be able to hike 45 miles in a day) so sometimes I've done Happy Isles - Half Dome - Glacier Point - Happy Isles as a 10-hour hike.

If a round trip, START early! 7 am at the latest, but 5 am if you can get to bed early. You'll have the trail to yourself and hike up above the heat of the day as it develops sooner at lower elevations.

If one-way or you fret the effort involved, consider getting dropped at Glacier Point and hiking down. There is a shuttle up there, but it doesn't leave super early. But since you're going only downhill, you don't need to start early.

Be prepared for summer thunderstorms in the afternoon. That can be as light and cheap as a Hefty trash bad, but on a hot and humid day, the Sierra WILL get those.

There is no treated water once you leave Glacier Point or the restrooms at the bridge below Vernal, so bring Iodine.

Hope that helps. It is a great hike. Much less crowded than many of the trails out of the Valley.

Editted to add: Look at some of your A's and clearly you get around, so sorry if any of that was too simple. I'd add that if you want the most current conditions that week, go to Happy Isles or the base of the Four-mile Trail in the early afternoon. Look for the serious hiker (travels light, good gear choices, lots of dust around the ankles) and ask if they've come off the Paroramic Trail. But even if they reported snow on the trail, I wouldn't bother with 4-points and anything like that. Just a boot/shoe with some decently deep lugs in the sole.

In my experience, the ranger info is 1-2 weeks old and way too conservative. If they say rope, ice screws and helmet, you really only need an ice axe. If they say ice axe, you need 4-points, etc.

Has anyone heard about or had any experience with Green Diamond snow tires?

I'm going to l be spending the rest of Feb.-June in the high country of colorado. I was considering Bridgestone Blizzak tires but during my research I stumbled across these green diamond tires. An interesting idea, but I'd never even heard of them before. Any input is appreciated!

Has anyone heard about or had any experience with Green Diamond snow tires?
No i just had a look at the site .I've been in the trade for some time now.
Reply:i have heard about something similar that Toyo did in the past with their winter tires.. embedding ground up walnut shell into the tread to improve traction

honestly, i think if it has the 'snowflake on a mountain' severe snow duty logo it will work just fine, so purchase whatever is on sale at a reputable shop. tirerack.com has some 'winterforce' winter tires on sale for $70/tire. i've used those for the last couple of seasons and no problems

I will be visiting Switzerland in 1st week of June, will Mt.Moritz still cover with snow.?

There should be some on the top of it, but I don't think you're going skiing on it...Sorry. I was in Switzerland in the summer a few times and only the really high mountains had snow on them, and it was just at the top.

I will be visiting Switzerland in 1st week of June, will Mt.Moritz still cover with snow.?
Yes, absolutely. The peak of Mt. Moritz is snow capped all but a few weeks a year, usually in late August. The elevation keeps it cold enough that its been known to snow in July and not melt for weeks. It's a sight to behold, I know you'll enjoy it, take some pictures.

Is there any possibility to see snow from may last week to June 1st week arround Manali?

Yes, you would still be able to enjoy snow at Rohtang Pass, about 1 hr drive from Manali.

However the snow there would be brownish in colour between end-May %26amp; start-June, as it wouldn't be fresh.

Is there any possibility to see snow from may last week to June 1st week arround Manali?
Yeh you may find...I went a few years ago and was lucky to see snow near Rohtang Pass, which is about 1 hr drive from Manali.

Reply:it snows year round on high mountains.
Reply:Yes it has snowed in the UK in the summer in the past. It has nothing to do with global warming or anything like that, it's just a rare combination of weather patterns. It's not very common though.

To find out more, contact your countries weather office and they will give you more details. In the UK, our weather office website is, http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/ . If you e-mail them, after a short time they will get back to you.
Reply:Yes, during the summerless year in 1816 during the little Ice Age. It snowed off and on all summer all accross the USA and Europe. Way before my time, though.
Reply:Usually the chances for snow diminish dramatically after June and most of the time in May. Areas that can get snow are usually mountainess regions.
Reply:Didn't you read the news? It snowed in Montana a few days ago.

If I were to head for Perth next June, can I experience any snow in the highland?

Perth Australia doesn't get snow at any time of the year.

I think you posted this in the wrong section, were you thinking of Perth Scotland? If so sorry, I wouldn't know.

If I were to head for Perth next June, can I experience any snow in the highland?
No not at all. Perth, Australia has no "highlands".

Maybe Perth Scotland?
Reply:No chance at all. You would be about 2000km from the nearest snow, unless you go directly south to Antarctica. There is not a lot of high country anywhere near Perth, and it is much to warm to snow, even in the middle of winter.
Reply:Nope. Not any where in Perth.

I DON'T THINK SO, THAT YOU WILL FIND THE SNOW AT MANAL AT JUNE...........IF, YOU REALLY WANT TO SEE SNOW THEN YOU SHOULD GO TO HIMACHAL IN WINTER.....FIRST THING YOU WILL EASLY FIND THE SNOW......SECOND THING YOU WILL ALSO GET THE GOOD PRICE OF HOTELS,,,,,,,,,,,

I DON'T KNOW WHY PEOPLE GO TO HIMACHAL IN SUMMER....

Does the snow sometimes come down in June?

Yes, and sometimes the sun goes 'round the moon... Or so says Vanessa Williams.

Does the snow sometimes come down in June?
Yes, it depends where you live and how high up you are.
Reply:When there is a cataclysmic volcanic eruption like Tambora or Krakatoa, the ash is so volumnous that it encircles the earth. If the ash cloud is dense enough, it can alter temperatures and can result in snowfall like Krakatoa did in the 19th century.

"Save The Best for Last" By Vanessa WIlliams:

Sometimes the snow comes down in june

Sometimes the sun goes round the moon

I see the passion in your eyes

Sometimes its all a big surprise

cause there was a time when all I did was wish

Youd tell me this was love

Its not the way I hoped or how I planned

But somehow its enough

And now were standing face to face

Isnt this world a crazy place

Just when I thought our chance had passed

You go and save the best for last

All of the nights you came to me

When some silly girl had set you free

You wondered how youd make it through

I wondered what was wrong with you

cause how could you give your love to someone else

And share your dreams with me

Sometimes the very thing youre looking for

Is the one thing you cant see

And now were standing face to face

Isnt this world a crazy place

Just when I thought our chance had passed

You go and save the best for last

Sometimes the very thing youre looking for

Is the one thing you cant see

Sometimes the snow comes down in june

Sometimes the sun goes round the moon

Just when I thought our chance had passed

You go and save the best for last

You went and saved the best for last

We're from Florida and will be in Colorado in early June, Will my kid be able to see and experience any snow?

only at the very highest altitudes. if you go into Rocky Mountain National Park and drive all the way up Trail Ridge Road you may see some and possibly Pikes Peak as well. Pikes is in CO Springs, take the Cog Railway to the top (a great trip with or without snow) and there may be some up there. Bring layers because the higher you go the colder it gets and we don't have humidity here. But down around Denver the weather will be great.

We're from Florida and will be in Colorado in early June, Will my kid be able to see and experience any snow?
go west of Denver, maybe around Breckenridge.
Reply:i live in colorado and yes your kid will get a ton of snow dec-march and maybe april!!
Reply:breckenridge? vail?

check out the ski parks and see. some still have black hills open in june for skiing.
Reply:Rocky Mountain National Park will still have snow at the higher elevations , now much , but enough for the kids . also drive to the top of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs or take the Cog Railway
Reply:we moved here to colorado, in dec. and saw snow for a day, it melts the next day. since dec.... we have only had 2 days of snow, and then the next day it melts! I doubt that you can see snow on the ground, but on pikes peak you can!
Reply:Sometimes there is still snow along I-70 near Vail or Eisenhower Passes. But you need to realize that if you do find snow in early June, it will be very hard and icy. It won't be the soft, fluffy, new snow; unless of course it snows while you are here, which it could.
Reply:Yes, but it's not easy to get to. Research the "Alpine Tunnel".. it was the FIRST EVER tunnel through a mountain.. regardless of what other tunnels claim... it was bored through as a railroad tunnel for the Denver and Rio Gande Western.

There is a good book on the Alpine Tunnel that you can still buy. If you follow the route of the railroad, it will take you above the tree line and you WILL be into the snow... because there is still snow on the East Side of the tunnel even in July.

WARNING... if you don't have a FOUR WHEEL DRIVE... you may DIE... because there is NO TRAFFIC up there and, even with a 4x4 you CAN get stuck... and the temp drops to the teens at night, so you will be stuck until help can arrive, assuming you can reach them.

Driving around the Colorado Rockies is not a sunday drive for an amateur... if you don't know how to drive in the mountains and you don't know how to drive in snow AT ELEVATION... then you had better not take the kiddies up there so they can see the snow.

Every year several people from the flat lands get killed because they think driving around the Rocky Mountains is like a day at the seashore on a barrier island.
Reply:bet on it

in places like Denver ( the capital of colorado) you can get up to 59 inches of snow
Reply:Not in Denver.
Reply:Early June - yes. We've been backcountry camping in Rocky Mountain National Park in June and have had to hike through snow to get to our campsites.

So if they are willing to do a bit of hiking - and it doesn't have to just be backcountry camping but a hike that is longer than a mile, up on the higher trails, then yes, they will experience snow.
Reply:your kid will be Abel to see snow in Denver if u guys go to the slopes also Denver has a amusement park and opens in June so have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also i am from colorado so i should know
Reply:Drive up to Rocky Mountain National Park and camp there. Hike during the day, and do BBQ for your meals. When you hike up, you stand a good chance to see snow up on top of the mountains. Be sure to take something warm because it will get very cold at night. You need to book for a camp site early in case they run out.
Reply:Arapahoe Basin ski area is usually open quite late. They've had so much snow this year they could even still be open.

To see snow you'll have to drive to the mountains.
Reply:no there will probley not be any snow that time of the year i have never seen it happen and i have lived here my whole life but starting in october till march april there is some snow
Reply:I have seen it snow in Denver in June but that is very rare. But there will be snow in the mountains in June.
Reply:Probably only on the crests of the rocky mountains. But, if you're lucky enough to experience the many ocassions of 'freak' weather we have then probably on the lower elevations.

Is the 2010 South Africa Cup going to be in june?

Since South Africa is in the southern hemisphere, it would be during winter if held during the traditional june 9 to july 9th. The world cup is supposed to be during summer. if they hold it during june there could even be snow, does anyone know what they will do. I think the world cup has been held in the southern hem once, in brazil, but i don't know what they did then.

Is the 2010 South Africa Cup going to be in june?
Well, i think that the winter in South Africa is not so cold, and it doesn't snow there

And the Southern Hemisphere have hosted 5 (i guess) WC, all in Southern America and i don't know what was made about the winter in Argentina, for instance

And about the WC in Brazil, there aren't any problem with the winter because in the most cities that hosted games, the winter is soft (in northern Brazil practically there is no winter, and the others parts the temperature rarely reach 0°)

(sorry for my poor English) ;D
Reply:yessssssssssssssss,man!

Reply:Yes is always on the same month.

How can I find the catering snow cone van?

About a month or so ago, my mom, sister, and I went to the Working Women's Survival Show in St. Louis, MO. While there, we saw some company that catered snow cones for events. Well, my mom got a brochure but later threw it away because she thought we wouldn't use it. However, my sister's baby shower is in June and would love to have this. All I know is that it's in the St. Louis area. Please help! Thanks!

Well, I can't figure out which company it would be, but here is a list of all the exhibits from this year's WWSS.

Reply:I live in Saint Louis, and I am not familiar with any snow cone company. Have you tried to buy a snow cone machine? The Walmart probably carries them. If you are ever bored and in the Saint Louis area I will take you out for a snow cone... Cheap date;)
